NEW College cricket team beat Leeds City College in the Outdoor T20 cricket format to become the best cricket team in Yorkshire and the Humber this week. They beat Leeds in the penultimate over in a thrilling final at York County Cricket Club to win the Outdoor T20 competition for the first time.
In the semi-finals, NEW College restricted Sheffield College to just 63 runs and reached their target after just 8 overs, thanks to Connor Harvey and Grad Green.
NEW College were set a challenging total of 123 in the final against Leeds, requiring just over a run per ball. Coach Leon Sacks said: “Despite this the fielders, especially Rogers, Weaver and Green, ably supported by the wicket takers, were fantastic throughout.”
In chasing, NEW College got off to a steady start before a partnership from Connor Fisher and Callum Honeyman, who at one stage required 9 runs an over, got them over the winning line with 7 balls to spare. In the process, Callum Honeyman picked up the Man of the Match award.
