NEW College student Courtney Eardley, 16, competed in the WTKA World Championship in Italy over October half-term and was crowned World Champion in Taekwondo.
More than 5000 competitors from 60 countries competed in the championship held by the World Taekwondo Karate Association and included events such as Kick Boxing, Cage Fighting, Kata, Weapons, Karate, Judo and Taekwondo. Courtney competed in the Women’s 55kg Weapons, Cadet Open Weight Weapons, Team Tradition Forms and Individual Kata classes. She won both a gold and silver medal.
“It was a great experience,” Courtney said. “ I got to meet lots of new people from all over the world.”
Courtney represented England at the championship in 2012 and placed third. She has also qualified for next year’s World Championships which will take place in Florida.
