NEW College student selected for AoC Sport National Student Management Team

Sport student Fern Burnley of NEW College, Pontefract, has successfully gained a place on the Association of Colleges’ Sport National Student Management Team (NSMT).

The 17 year-old beat off stiff competition through a robust application process, demonstrating the skills and qualities the panel identified for their 2014/15 programme.

Fern, currently in her second year studying a BTEC Extended Diploma in Sport at NEW College, will be part of a nationally recognised team who meet and lead events at outstanding and inspirational venues, as well as planning and leading flagship national sector events, media and marketing.

Speaking of her success, Fern said: “I applied because I wanted different opportunities to try and help improve sport in our college. It was difficult because there were many different applicants. The teachers at NEW College have been incredibly supportive and I am very excited to become part of it.”

NEW College Principal, Pauline Hagen said: “We are all extremely proud of Fern’s achievements so far and of all the hard work she has put in. This is a fantastic opportunity for her.”
