NEW College Pontefract hosted the West Yorkshire Boccia championships last month and won the county trophy once again.
Having beaten South Fields School 6 – 2, the team now move on to the national competition, which takes place in March.
The team consisted of team captain Sophie Weaver, Sophie Pickles, James Bray and Daniel Garfield.
Sophie Weaver, team captain, said: “It was a good day and enjoyed by all involved. It was extra special as we won on home ground. All the players and supporters are looking forward to the next round.”
Andy Green, Sports Teacher and Team Coach, said: “I am delighted with the performance of the team and their success. It was fantastic to retain the West Yorkshire title. The standard was much higher this year and to retain the title was much more difficult than last year.”
He added: “NEW College students from the Sports Leaders course trained for this competition, gaining their Boccia Leaders Award and their Officials Award. This enabled a high level competition, with 20 officials and judges, to run smoothly.”
