Three NEW College Pontefract students are celebrating after being successfully offered places on masterclass courses at Cambridge University.
The highly competitive courses are designed to provide A level students with the chance to experience typical undergraduate teaching at Cambridge University.
Lydia Slack has been offered a place on the History masterclass at Pembroke College, whilst James Fleming has been offered Chemistry at Corpus Christi. Alex Gill has been offered a place on not one but two masterclasses at Corpus Christi, for Biomedical Sciences and Biology/Chemistry.
Lydia Sacks said: “Judith Lawson, our Oxbridge coordinator at NEW College, was incredibly helpful with making the application. I am very excited about the masterclass in the Easter holidays, and the help it will provide me with the UCAS application I am hoping to make in October.”
Alex Gill added: “I am really pleased I have the chance to take part in not just one but two masterclasses, as I feel they will give me a unique experience of the university, as well as furthering my knowledge in areas related to my A level subjects. I plan to apply to Cambridge University; I hope this opportunity will allow me to gain a great first impression.”
NEW College Principal, Pauline Hagen said: “I am very proud of the achievements of these students, who are all members of NEW College’s Excellence Academy programme. Their success in the masterclass placements is a reflection of how talented and ambitious they are. It is also a promising indicator of their likely strong performance at A level, and progression to prestigious universities.”
