New College student Toni Buckingham has been selected to compete alongside the England Athletics shot put team.
The 17 year old, who studies PE, economics, business and fashion & textiles design, qualified by throwing 10.5 meters. Her personal best so far has been 12.97m.
Toni has previously represented both West Yorkshire and South Yorkshire before gaining her England place.
Toni said: “I started athletics 11 years ago at the age of 6, after being inspired by my brother to give it a go. It feels fantastic to get selected to be on the team. I am now aiming for the world youth championships for this year. Staff at New College have been very supportive, especially PE Teacher Andy Green who helped me get to this.”
