New College’s first Sports Science HND students started this week, as the college continues to develop its higher education programme.
The twenty eight students will have the opportunity to work with some of the region’s best professional sports men and women on a course with close ties to the Super League’s Castleford Tigers and Huddersfield University.
“We have access to the Tigers’ training grounds, specialist equipment and match-play data,” said Hanna Storey, one of the teachers on the course, “and some of their training staff will run specialist sessions as part of the HND course.”
On top of this, the students will be based in a purpose-built block at New College, with the latest technology helping them track performance on and off the pitch.
The Sports Science HND follows on from the highly regarded Art Foundation course which recruits over 50 post-18 students a year. New College will be launching Games Design and Health & Social Care HND courses in September 2016. Further information on all the college’s 2016 HND courses will appear on their website soon: wwww.ncpontefract.ac.uk.
