Three talented students from New College Pontefract have successfully been accepted into the England Colleges team.
Tom Egan, Jack Render and Alex Clegg, all members of the Pontefract Titans CAT3 Academy run by New College and Featherstone Rovers, were all selected after impressing in Yorkshire trials.
Ten players from the colleges’ premier rugby league team were selected for the Yorkshire trials and six made the final team. Tom, Jack and Alex were then selected from the final team to play for the north squad from which the England team was picked.
Tom Egan has already experienced playing for England last year, but this will be the first time for Year 12 students Jack Render and Alex Clegg.
Andrew Petch, Head of Rugby, said: “This will be an incredible experience for our young players. I’m proud of all our team and they have all worked incredibly hard this season. Having a great partnership with Featherstone Rovers through the academy gives our players real opportunities, by studying with us but gaining the quality experience needed on the pitch that Rovers can provide.”
