New College sport student Ellen Cooper has successfully been selected to represent the England’s women squash team.
Ellen, who also studies Business, Chemistry and Maths, has been playing the sport for England since she was just 12 years old and last weekend saw the Year 12 student win the under 19s Yorkshire tournament.
This means that over the past 7 years she has won every age group she has participated in. Ellen has been ranked number one in England for every age group too, and is currently number three in England for the under 17s.
Ellen said: “I first represented England in France in 2013, when I was the captain of the team and we went on to win. I then represented England in 2015 in Scotland and we won there too, and most recently represented England in Portugal in 2015, where we won again.”
She added: “I train every day for about 2 hours and once a week I have a personal training session in the gym to focus on my fitness and most weekends have tournaments. I am part of the England development squad which takes place on weekends in Manchester at the sports academy centre where a group of us train with some professional players.”
