New College student Amy Bullock successfully won the English Youth title in the Night of Champions boxing event in Doncaster.
The Year 12 student boxed at the Doncaster Dome event in October for the sought after title. Despite losing on a split decision, the sixth form student managed to secure a rematch at the Selby Boxing Academy in November.
Fighting her opponent over four rounds each at two minutes long and with a standing 8-count in round one and three, Amy won the fight on a unanimous decision and won the English title.
The Health and Social Care student began her love for the sport at Selby Boxing Academy having her first fight in May this year and winning by knock-out of the first round. Amy’s continued success saw her go onto to represent Yorkshire in the Esker Box Club in Dublin this October.
Next year Amy will face the ABA Youth Championships in February, fighting girls from across the country for the chance to become national champion and secure a place on the England squad.
Speaking of her success so far, Amy said: “I have high ambitions to compete not only in the European Championships but to also compete in the Olympic Games in 2020. The teachers at New College have always taken an interest in the progress of my boxing and have motivated and supported me through past events. Without this push to be the best I can be, I wouldn’t be where I am today.”
