New College Pontefract’s Sport & Physical Education department has been awarded the Quality Mark with Distinction from the Association for Physical Education for a second time. The top grade, which is awarded for a period of 3 years, is earned for ‘demonstrating outstanding commitment to improvement in Physical Education and Sport’.
New College Principal, Richard Fletcher, said, “I am very pleased that our sports department has achieved this prestigious award once again. It is recognition for the continuous hard work PE staff and sports coaches put in every week, ensuring new college students continue to experience an array of sports at the highest level.
Tom Shepherd, Head of Sport, added, “I am proud of our PE students who engage in the opportunities presented to them, helping them to develop their leadership skills. Our PE students always represent the New College so professionally across the region and abroad. This award also recognises the high efforts and commitment by staff to maximise these opportunities, whilst continuously working to improve. We are happy to accept the award with Distinction once again and are the first sixth form college to do so in the country.”
