Former New College student to appear on hit BBC show ‘The Apprentice’

Former New College Pontefract student Joanna Jarjue is set to appear on hit BBC1 show ‘The Apprentice’. The long running reality TV series sees contestants compete to impress Sir Alan Sugar for a £250,000 business investment.

Joanna came to New College from St Thomas à Becket Catholic Secondary School and attended here from 2010-2012. She studied Geography, Government & Politics and English Literature. She progressed to Newcastle University to study Politics.

Now 23, Joanna grew up in Wakefield, and is the youngest of the 18 contestants on this year’s show. However, she is confident of taking home the prize of being Alan Sugar’s business partner. “This is a big opportunity,” she said. “People like Lord Sugar, Claude Littner and Karren Brady are just absolute inspirations. “I wouldn’t apply for something like this if I didn’t think I had a chance of winning. I have every intention of trying my hardest to do that. I really like the fact that I grew up somewhere where everybody knew everyone, It’s different in my older life because I have lived in Newcastle and Manchester. But I’m really glad my early years were somewhere as real and homely as Wakefield.”

She added: “All I am hoping for is that, especially when people from Wakefield watch the show, they see some of the qualities that we have as a community.”

The Apprentice airs at 9pm on Wednesdays.
