BBC’s ‘The Apprentice’ comes to New College Pontefract

BBC’s ‘The Apprentice’ finalist and motivational speaker Adam Corbally visited New College Pontefract this month to share his inspirational story.  The audience of Business Studies students and Year 12s undertaking the Student Leadership Development Programme were given insights into Adam’s success.

Adam shared his motivational journey, charting his rise as an entrepreneur and business leader, and the barriers he faced along the way, leading to his appearance on BBC’s ‘The Apprentice’, in which Adam navigated the gruelling 12-week competition, only to hear the famous words ‘you’re fired’ from Lord Sugar at the final stage.

Key themes threaded throughout this interactive presentation included resilience and recognising when to ask for support.

Jon Zeb, Business Teacher and Coordinator of Citizenship and Fundamental British Values at New College, said: “This was a fantastic opportunity for our students to develop their knowledge, skills and understanding of leadership, and to learn from a real role model of resilience.  The personal stories and themes shared by Adam throughout his presentation were inspirational, highlighting the importance of resilience in overcoming barriers to achieve a goal.”

“I really enjoyed the event,” said one Year 12 student.  “Adam got me thinking about the setbacks I have faced, and still face, in achieving my goal of starting my own business after university.  I feel really motivated after hearing what Adam has achieved and will use the strategies he shared.”

“What an outstanding group of young people,” said Adam.  “They are brilliant ambassadors for New College Pontefract.  I really enjoyed working with them and look forward to seeing how they progress in their studies and as future leaders.”
