ENDURE CHALLENGE is a CHARITY group that organise events to raise vital funds and push limits for cancer research and care , including people who have suffered from this awful disease.
When I was told I had cancer, I don’t remember much of what was said after that word. It all blurred. I nodded, listened, tried to take it in — but inside I was broken instantly. Not just of what might happen to me, or how bad in might be but of what it would do to the people I love.
The hardest part wasn’t always the physical side. It was the mental battle that came quietly and stayed. The waiting. The scans, bloods after bloods, The hospital rooms that start to feel familiar. Putting on a brave face because I wanted my kids to see me as okay and not know, even on the days I felt anything but. Smiling through because I didn’t want cancer to steal that from them too aswell as my wife.
I went through this late last year, and it changed me. It showed me how life is too short and we need to enjoy our loved ones more, slow down, be more within the room when we are in it, enjoy the little things that matter — and how lonely it can feel, even when you’re surrounded by people who care and love you. Luckily, I had an operation that has removed cancer with regular checks for a few years to closely monitor this, but fingers crossed I can be healthy for the coming future which I will enjoy as much as I can with my amazing family and friends who have helped me through the hardest period of my life. And I realised I am a lot stronger than I thought I ever was both physically after surgery and mentally still moving on to this day.
As I continue my recovery, I had an idea: if I got through this, I would do something meaningful for those still fighting or struggling. That promise became ENDURE. I did my first 5k last week on over 3 months which was so difficult and a huge step after surgery.
ENDURE isn’t just about fundraising. It’s about showing up. It’s about reminding people facing cancer that someone understands how hard it is to simply get through a day. I learned firsthand how much the smallest gestures matter — a message, a step taken in your name, someone choosing not to look away.
In 2026, and firstly On 28th March, I’ll be joined by a close group of my best friends to take on a 42km dash (Route still TBC) . We’ll push our bodies and our minds in honour of everyone who has faced cancer — including those who are still fighting and those we’ve lost. Later in the year, we’ll hold a second event, open to anyone who wants to stand with us and be part of this.
Cancer takes too much. It took my lovely late mother-in-law and others I know , and someone surely you have known, and it leaves marks on families that never fully fade. ENDURE is my way of turning something painful into something positive of giving back hope, strength, and support where it’s needed most.
This journey has taught me that endurance isn’t about being fearless. It’s about continuing when you’re scared, exhausted and getting it done through the hard time , fitness has / is a tool that has always helped me personally and many others. If ENDURE helps even one person feel less alone, then every mile, every ache, and every step will be worth it. Massive thanks to our kit sponsor for our first event who will be UNIQUE VAN LINING. All sponsor money will go towards Yorkshire cancer research and Maggie’s centre
