Enquiries About Results

All A Levels are linear, which means that you get an overall result at the end of the course.  The exam boards do not provide a total mark on their results information, therefore you will be unable to find out where you are in relation to the grade boundaries.  If you wish to find out this information, you will be able to obtain this from either the Head of Faculty or Exams staff.

If you are close to the next grade boundary, you may wish to pay for a Review of Marking.  It may be advisable to obtain a priority copy of the script before proceeding with this option.  You will need to complete and return an Enquiries About Results & Access to Scripts Student Application Form below, make the correct payment via the College Online Shop and take the completed form to the Exams Officer at your college.

Listed below are the main services offered by the Examination Boards:

Service 1 – clerical check

A check of all clerical procedures which lead to us issuing a result. This includes making sure:

• all parts of the exam paper have been marked

• marks have been recorded/added up correctly

• special consideration has been applied (where appropriate)

• the grade boundaries have been applied accurately

Service 2 – review of marking

A check that examiners have marked externally assessed components correctly. This includes: • the clerical check (Service 1) • a review of marking of units/components by a senior examiner.

Service P2 – priority review of marking

This service is the same as the Service 2 review of marking but is processed faster. It is only available if a candidate’s place in higher education is dependent on the outcome and it will take up to 15 days to complete.

Access to Scripts (ATS)

This allows you to request copies of your marked exam papers. Scripts do not have examiner annotation on them, but you can see the marks.

There are three possible outcomes to a Review of Marking enquiry:

  1. Your original mark is lowered, so your final grade may be lower than the original grade you received.
  2. Your original mark is confirmed as correct, and there is no change to your grade.
  3. Your original mark is raised, so your final grade may be higher than the original grade you received.

Deadline dates and fees for these services vary and are detailed on the application form.
