Media students from New College Pontefract are celebrating after their work was nominated in the Learning on Screen Awards by the British Universities Film and Video Council.
Anna Levick, Head of Media at New College will be joined by some of the students at the British Film Institute, Southbank in London for the award ceremony on April 28. New College are the only sixth form college nominated in the Student Production Further Education Category.
Now in University or in jobs, Ellie Lightowler, Ryan Seager, Philippa Salisbury, Poppy Hollis and Mike Brown were nominated for their work, whilst, Bailey Poaching, Shelby Sinar, Kyle Palister who are all still at college were also nominated.
Anna Levick, Head of Media, said: “We have always known in Media that our students create fantastic work. To have this recognised by a national body, the British Universities Film & Video Council, is simply fantastic. I am thrilled for all the students who have been involved in both pieces of work, they have made some exceptional pieces in a genre that is all too often very dull and lacking in creativity. Their work is neither of these things. All students have displayed a level of professionalism way in excess of their age and I am immensely proud of them.”
It’s going to be amazing to see their work on the large screen at the BFI, Southbank London, and even if we do not get the award to be the only sixth form college with a nomination and in such excellent company as the BBC and many top universities is an experience I hope they will cherish.”
