Music student Emily-Grace Clifton of NEW College, Pontefract, has successfully gained a place at the Royal Northern College of Music.
The success follows on from the fantastic news earlier this academic year, when Emily was accepted at the National Youth Orchestra (NYO).
Emily, who has played viola since the age of 14, also studies Maths and Law at NEW College, and attends Leeds College of Music every Sunday and City of Leeds Youth Orchestra (CLYO) every Friday night. She practises viola every day with the ultimate ambition of becoming a professional violist.
Speaking of her successful place, Emily-Grace said: “I gained places at Birmingham Conservatoire, Trinity Laban and Royal Northern, all with scholarships. I was deciding between Birmingham and Royal Northern and eventually picked Royal Northern after finding a great teacher. I also love the place. I had to audition at each of the conservatoires, which was tough as the standards are so high and it’s very competitive!”
Principal for NEW College, Pauline Hagen, said: “We are all extremely proud of Emily’s achievements so far and of all the hard work she has put in. This is another fantastic opportunity for her.”
