At New College Pontefract, we believe that all students should have access to expert advice and guidance to support them in their next steps after college. We coordinate the support provided by working closely with Progress Tutors and Study Support team to ensure students with any additional needs access the support they need. With a team of Careers Advisers trained to Level 6, we offer:
- One-to-one guidance sessions which students can book
- Support with applications to Apprenticeships and Employment, including C.V. writing, completion of application forms and interview and assessment day preparation
- Information and guidance on university options, student finance advice and making a strong application via UCAS.
- Parent/Carer support through careers events in Year 12 and 13, and regular careers letters with details of upcoming events and support.
- One-to-one appointments in college with our local university partners for help with Personal Statements and general university advice as well as appointments from external agencies such as Wakefield Employment Hub to support in seeking work.
- Information on apprenticeship vacancies via the college’s Careers SharePoint page, regular Teams messages, student emails and tutorial notices.
- Support following exam results, to help students decide what to do next.
- Careers events in college include our Careers and HE Day with over 100 individual careers talks and a HE fair of over 40 Higher Education institutions in attendance.
