NEW College’s Sport Department has received the Association for Physical Education’s ‘Quality Mark for Physical Education & Sport’ award with Distinction.
NEW College were awarded the prestigious afPE Quality Mark for ‘demonstrating outstanding commitment to improvement in Physical Education and Sport’, becoming the first post-16 provider to achieve this.
The afPE Quality Mark recognises the strength and quality of physical education and sport at NEW College and promotes the high quality work that is being carried out on a day to day basis. There is significant evidence to support that quality physical education and sport make a difference to the learning and experiences of young people both within the subject and more widely across the curriculum. The kind of high quality physical education undertaken at NEW College also contributes to healthy and active lifestyles, improving emotional well-being, reducing poor behaviour, increasing attendance and develops key skills such as leadership, confidence and social skills.
Head of Department, Tom Shepherd said “This award reflects the high quality teaching provided by NEW College PE staff every day. Our students are motivated, organised and successful, and to be the first KS5 provider in the UK to receive this award is extra special. Receiving distinction status shows our ability to sustain outstanding provision in PE and sport.”
