NEW College Knights Yorkshire and Humber Champions

Girls basketball team at NEW College, the NEW College Knights, have this week become the Yorkshire and Humber champions by beating Wkye College 24-17.

Wyke started off well scoring two easy baskets, but captain Greta Krasniqi showed outstanding leadership skills and motivated her players to keep fighting.

Coach Hanna Storey said of the team: “There were some outstanding performances from the girls after the training in Malta over half-term.” The Knights, along with other teams from NEW College spent time in Malta over half-term, training with and coaching Maltese players. Captain Greta added: “Malta saved us. I’m buzzing right now!”

Bailey Hood scored 13 of the Knights 24 goals and was awarded Player’s Player for her efforts. Coach’s Player went to Phoebe Brooks who also scored, whilst Most Improved Player went to Lois Whittaker. Hannah said: “Lois’ confidence improved greatly, she just got better as the game went along.”

The Knights next play in the National BSC Championships at Bath University later in the year.
