Student is World Tumbling Champion

NEW College student, Ashleigh Long was last week crowned World Champion in Tumbling at the 2014 Trampoline and Tumbling World Age Group Championships in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Ashleigh came first in the 17-18 age group, after qualifying for the final round in second place. She had to complete two qualifying rounds, where only the top eight scorers will reach the final round and compete to determine a winner. Ashleigh won with a final score of 33.700.

Ashleigh said: “I’m very happy with my achievement. All the hard work I put into tumbling has paid off.”

Ashleigh trains five times a week at Wakefield Gym Club at Thornes Park and has been training since she was six. She has travelled all around the world competing in tumbling events in America, Bulgaria, Russia, Portugal and France.

This year she also competed in the European Team Championships, where the team came first, and in the British Championships, where she took second place. Last year, Ashleigh was World Champion in the 15-16 age group.
