NEW College Pontefract has been shortlisted for the national College of the Year award. Published by the Times Educational Supplement, the TES FE Awards celebrate the best sixth form and FE colleges in the country.
Principal Pauline Hagen said: “We are very proud to have been shortlisted for this prestigious award. It is a reflection not only of the talent but also the sustained commitment of every member of our community to the achievement of their very best.”
NEW College achieved a “golden sweep” in their outstanding Ofsted inspection last May, with a grade 1 in every curriculum area inspected, something no other sixth form college has achieved.
On top of this, last year they were awarded “Leaders in Diversity” status by the National Centre for Diversity, achieved by only five institutions in the country. NEW College are also the first post-16 provider in the country to gain the prestigious AfPE Quality Mark, national recognition from the Association for Physical Education.
“It is this combination of talent and commitment,” said Ms Hagen, “which makes our college an outstanding and very special place to work and learn.”
The winner of the TES College of the Year will be announced at an awards ceremony on Friday 27th February.
