New College Pontefract once again successfully competed in the national championships for the Association of Colleges in Newcastle this month.
The outstanding sixth form provided students in 9 out of the 13 events possible including badminton, basketball and cricket. This meant there were no other college with a greater number of competitions covered.
For some New College students, the championships are a returned event. Fern Burnley, who is currently studying for an HND in Sports Science at the Sixth form, was taking part for a third time. She said: “It was a fantastic experience. We came fifth in basketball which is a great achievement. I can’t thank everyone at New College enough, each year has just got better. Absolutely love playing sport.”
Sports Teacher, Andy Green said: “We put in some awesome performances in the National College Championships in Newcastle. The extremely high standard of competition brought the best out of our students, achieving fantastic results against some international competitors. All the staff who attended were so proud of the commitment, attitude and sportsmanship displayed.
