New College Pontefract invites you to step into the enchanted world of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast this month at the John Godber Theatre. The sixth form college’s annual summer production this year pits Gaston and the Beast (John Broodhead) against each other to win the heart of Belle (Chelsea Malanczack).
Belle’s father, Maurice (Sam Manndi-Ghomi), discovers an enchanted castle when he becomes lost in the woods. Here he meets the musical’s magical characters: Mrs. Potts (Phoebe Lloyd), Chip (Jemma Baker), Lumiere (Bailey Poching), Cogsworth (Beth Gabbitas) and Babette (Rosa Johnston Kincaid). They all live in the hope that Belle will be the one to break the spell of the castle.
The student cast bring to life show stopping numbers such as “Be Our Guest” and “Gaston”.
Directed by the Drama team and choreographed by Ella Daley, teacher of dance, the show boasts larger than life dance numbers.
Michelle Colville, Head of Performing Arts, said: “I am so proud of the hard work the students have put into this year’s production so far. We are really looking forward to showcasing the broad range of our talented students. Everything is that bit bigger and better this year, from the costumes to the production sets. It will be a show certainly not to miss.”
