Music student set to play at the Royal Albert Hall

Music student Siobhan Thomas at New College Pontefract will be playing at the Royal Albert Hall in November with the Wakefield Percussion Ensemble.

The Year 13 student, who also studies Geography, History and Law, plays the drums and will be in the starting line up for the opening night at the school proms.

Siobhan said: “The percussion group have been together for four years and I’ve been there from the start. We rehearse once a week in Wakefield but when it gets closer to the Royal Albert Hall concert we’ll rehearse two or three times a week. I’m extremely excited about playing at the Royal Albert Hall, it’s a dream come true. Michelle, our music teacher at New College is really supportive as well as my friends in my music class.”

Michelle Colvill, New College Head of Performing Arts, said: “This is truly a great opportunity for Siobhan. She is a very gifted musician and she will thoroughly enjoy the experience.”
