New College Pontefract will once again be sending over 30 students and staff to work with young people in Malta for two weeks this October.
For the fourth year running, the sixth form college’s students will be working with local schools and youth groups in Malta, helping deliver a range of sports training and events. New College students will be teaching young people from the island’s primary and secondary schools to play cricket, volleyball and water polo, as well as running recreational fixtures in football, netball and cricket.
Project Leader, Andrew Green said: “The benefits in taking part in this European project are mainly centred around the students gaining a cultural and social experience in addition to supporting their vocational learning. It’s been a fantastic experience in the past which is why we’re delighted to be doing it again.”
New College Pontefract has been awarded a grant through Erasmus+ [European Mobility Funding] for the 28 students and accompanying staff members to take part in the European work placement project. The college will be working in partnership with one of Malta’s leading sport provider, Luxol Sports Club, in delivering the project.
