The UK Government’s TURING scheme funding provided eight business students with the opportunity to participate in a two-week work placement programme with one of Dubai’s leading Marketing Companies. Students experienced live events, activations, workshops and seminars in addition to visiting the delayed EXPO 2020, a global event showcasing 200 represented countries.
Pontefract-born, Rebecca Selby, Director of hosting Dubai-based company Media Interactive Agency said “The New College Pontefract students were exemplary in their attitude, application and engagement with the placement programme. The students’ end of placement presentations clearly showed their links to learning and understanding of the real world of business.”
The students received official notification from TECOM, Dubai’s Municipality for Internships and Work Placements in addition to Certificates of Achievements presented by the hosting company.
Becky Fox, Accompanying Staff Member and Disadvantaged Coordinator stated: “This has been a fantastic opportunity for Business students to apply classroom learning in a vocational setting. The students have taken part in a range of Business marketing events including Canon, Samsung and the Dubai Corporate Games.”
Students worked alongside a wide range of stakeholders which in turn provided them the perfect setting to develop key skills such as negotiation, planning, problem solving, communication and teamwork. New College Pontefract would like to thank the TURING scheme administration and Media Interactive Agency for providing a life changing experience to the students that were involved.
New College Pontefract has pledged to continue to source external funding to enable students to continue to access wider work-based experience opportunities.
