New College student shortlisted for fundraising award

Current New College Pontefract student, Emily Laycock from Wakefield, has been shortlisted for the Young Fundraiser of the Year award at the Celebrating You awards 2023. The Celebrating You Awards are run by the Brain Tumour Charity and are a chance to give something back to the inspiring people who’ve gone above and beyond to make a difference to the lives of those affected by a brain tumour.

Emily completed a two-day, 29km sponsored walk for the charity in memory of her 29 year old cousin, Luke, who passed away after battling brain cancer. Emily managed to raise a fantastic £6,189 and this week, the shortlist was revealed and Emily had made it to the final, out of 275 nominees. Emily said that herself and her family were ecstatic to have been shortlisted.

We wish Emily good luck at the finals which take place in London on 4 April 2023. You can find out more about the charity and their awards on the Brain Tumour Charity website – www.thebraintumourcharity.org
