The release of data by the DfE’s Education and Skills Funding Agency has revealed that New College Pontefract has been ranked as the third best sixth form college in the county for achievement. The college has been ranked in the top 5 for the past six years, but this announcement sees New College Pontefract achieve its highest ranking since the achievement rates were introduced.
Achievement rates are calculated by multiplying pass rates with retention rates, i.e. the number of students who stay on the course. This provides a realistic picture of how strong a provider is, and is one of the government’s key measures for analysing college performance.
The tables are designed to be an important tool in helping parents and students select the best possible post-16 provider. Being at the top of the table means that the vast majority of students complete and pass the qualifications they start.
“This is a further piece of evidence that New College Pontefract remains one of the top performing colleges in the country,” said Vicky Marks, Principal. “Managing to achieve a top-three position in a field of 82 Sixth Form Colleges across the country shows that the College’s systems, staff and strategies are helping our local young people access better university places, better training and better jobs. We are delighted to be able to make such a positive impact so consistently.”
