Students at New College Pontefract are celebrating another year of outstanding academic success, with the college achieving its best ever A Level and Applied General results and continuing its long-standing tradition of excellence.
This year, the college has broken its own record for student achievement, delivering year-on-year improvements across both A Level and Applied qualifications. The exceptional results mean that students are now progressing to their chosen universities, higher and degree apprenticeships, and employment opportunities with confidence and ambition.
A Level students achieved a remarkable 100% pass rate, with 65% of grades awarded at A-B* and 32% of students achieving the highest grades of A-A*. On average, students attained a grade B across their studies, significantly outperforming national outcomes.
Students studying Applied General qualifications also achieved exceptional success, recording a 100% pass rate, with 75% of grades awarded at Distinction or Distinction*. On average, students achieved a Distinction+, again placing performance well above national averages.
These figures may also improve slightly as exam boards process requests for reviews and remarks.
Chelsea Branson, Principal of New College Pontefract, said:
“We are absolutely delighted with this year’s results, which are the strongest in the college’s history. To achieve record-breaking outcomes across both A Level and Applied General qualifications is a tremendous accomplishment for our students and staff alike.
“The dedication and determination shown by our students throughout their studies have been exceptional. Achieving an average A Level grade of B and an average Applied grade of Distinction or higher, while significantly outperforming national results, demonstrates the outstanding effort, ambition and resilience within our college community.”
“We are incredibly proud of everything our students have achieved and are excited to see them progress to the next stage of their education, training and careers. These results reflect not only their hard work, but also the commitment of our teaching, pastoral and support teams who create an environment where young people can thrive.”
These outcomes build on New College Pontefract’s excellent track record of helping students make meaningful progress and secure positive destinations after college.
Brendon Fletcher, Executive Director for Sixth Form Education at New Collaborative Learning Trust, added:
